MIRU KIM / Naked City Spleen Istanbul / 02.04.2010-15.05.2010

The artist Miru Kim who works in different disciplines such as photography, video and painting prepared a new collection for SODA titled “Naked City Spleen Istanbul” during her one month stay in Istanbul, sponsored by Samsung.

Miru Kim is a New York-based artist who has explored various urban ruins and hidden spaces such as abandoned subway stations, tunnels, sewers, catacombs, factories, rooftops and shipyards. This experience–expressed through photographs, video and texts–has been the focus of the artist’s work in recent years. For the project “Naked City Spleen”, Kim has photographed herself in Seoul, New York, Paris, Berlin, Philadelphia, Montreal and London, and continued the project in Istanbul for one month. These forgotten spaces, once within the city’s routine, are now abandoned and left to seclusion. They revisit our visual memories with the interpretation of Kim, who uses her own body to animate and humanize these spaces.

Bir zamanlar hayatın tüm monotonluğuyla akıp gittiği, ardından kendi haline bırakılmış kent köşeleri, Kim’in yorumuyla yeniden görsel hafızamıza girdi. Video, fotoğraflar ve yazılardan oluşan sergi, İstanbul’a farklı bir gözle bakmayı sundu.
